What can be done about thick fungus toenails?
Fungus toenails are caused by a specific fungal “germ” often it is the same organism that causes Athlete’s Foot. A fungal infection can cause the nail to become thick, yellow, brittle, distorted in shape, dead skin build-up under the nail. There are a wide variety of treatments for this condition, many of which have proven unsuccessful:
  • Removing the entire can be painful and in most instances the new nail will often grow back with fungus
  • Oral medication has shown to be effective however there can be side effects when taking these medications
  • Recently laser procedures have been used for treating fungal nails. Unfortunately the “cure rate” is very poor.
Recently a new treatment, using the same active ingredient as found in the oral medication, has become available-and there have no reported side effects in over 15,000 cases.
